CyGene DNA Testing Security PolicyCyGene considers your personal genetic information to be just that, personal. CyGene believes that anonymity is the key to the ethical commercialization of the genetic profiling business. While consumers are highly interested in receiving genetic information, they are (and should be) wary of this information getting into the hands of employers, insurance companies and others. Some countries have already brought forth legislation ensuring the privacy of the information received from genetic testing (e.g., forbidding the requirement of a genetic test prior to employment or acceptance in an insurance plan, but also to ask questions whether genetic tests have been performed during diagnostic testing), but this kind of protection is still the exception. CyGene believes that even laws are not enough to protect the consumer from those who may use genetic information to their detriment. Therefore, CyGene has developed and patented a testing model, which will not allow matching someone s identity with their DNA. The system goes beyond anonymization of samples after they are received in the laboratory, it ensures customer anonymity from the point of sale through test results access on the internet. This way, the consumer remains in full control over the test results, making it impossible for others, including CyGene, to identify the individual who is being tested. Consumers must protect their genetic identity from those who do not hesitate to break the law or from future changes to those laws. |
